Form VI – Two visions of «Estancia La Catita»
Lucrecia Galbiatti and Milena wrote two great reports about their trip to «La Catita»

Two weeks ago, my class and I went to a place called “La Catita”, it was in La Pampa (La Catita is a farm where we can learn about farming, cattle rearing, etc.). We all travelled by bus across Route 5, while I sat next to one of my best friends, Emma (the bus driver put us some movies to entertain us, but I spent to whole time listening to music, though).
When I stepped out of the bus for the first time, I… we had to take another bus. BUT WHEN I STEPPED OUT OF THE NEW BUS FOR THE FIRST TIME, all I saw was a big yard, with a big tree and some hammocks hung on it at the very far end. A bit closer, there was a small ranch with sheep (We gave them names: Bartholomew, Alejo, Zumo, “Gelatina”, “Giorgio”, and Machu Pichu. I chose the last name, by the way) running inside it. There was also a small football pit. The house was quite pretty, actually! Just like the farm! The food was tasty, also. It had a large hall and about five rooms. Good luck I didn’t get the one at the back. It was FULL of bugs! Unluckily, so was mine, so I chose the bed that was between the others, I wanted to be as far as the walls as possible, because as soon as I opened the door, a fly flew by and I saw THREE giant green, leaf-shaped bugs on each wall (not to mention a spider under each bed).
The first day was seventy-five percent free time and the rest we went to see the “Pampa Ondulada”. There were more bugs on the ride, even. Ugh! Then we went to see a river made of “unidentified, brown, dreadfully-smelling substances” (-cough-cough – excrements- cough-cough-). It was fun, though, but poor Serena fell into the river, pushed by “Milo”, the dog. While everyone was having dinner, a baby owl fell off the chimney when Lucrecia went to see the fire, so we called them “Elpichichi”. I just called them “Elpi”. AND OH MY GOD THAT OWL MADE SO MUCH NOISE DURING NIGHT! First, everyone thought they were cute, but then, EVERYONE WANTED TO KILL HIM! The next day we went to see the cows and we learned how to prevent their illnesses or diseases. We vaccinated the, too. We visited the milk factories, also! We saw how they were milked. We learnt about types of cows, (like the “Holando Argentina”, “Jersey”, etc.) and what they were used for. For example, “Jerseys” are used for meat due to their milk being not as good as it, and the “Holandos” are vice versa. Then we went to a school. OH MY GOD IT WAS SO SMALL! AND ONLY 16 STUDENTS! Then, we returned to La Catita and played some games after and before dinner. Finally, we went to sleep (after we learned about constellations and about the Southern Cross). The next day we saw the sheep (I finally caught Zumo. I got hurt meanwhile I chased him, but it didn’t matter) and the bees. That one was the best experience, but I got really nervous around so many bees. I liked all the experiences, especially the ones at night! But what I REALLY want to forget were the bugs (and I mean it!). Those nights were uncomfortable.
There were many things I want to (and will) remember, but no doubts about that the funniest thing was when Bautista (now nicknamed “Brenda”) was so fed up with the noises of Elpi at night that he came into the girls bedroom and “transformed himself into a new human being called “Brenda”, a girl with pink hair who was born yesterday and had an above-averaged intelligence”. Like if that wasn’t seen everyday. So we added “Brenda” to his list of nicknames. Here’s his full name: “Bibi- Olivia- Brenda- Bautista- Bautostada- Blattmann- Batman”
By Lucrecia:
On Tuesday I went to ¨La catita¨.We traveled on a double decker bus,but we all sat on the upper floor, because we were just 18 people. The trip was long but funny. We saw movies, played games and talked. The adults who went with us were Susana,Gustavo and Fernanda.
When we arrived we could see from the bus what the farm was like.It was big, with lots of natural things, with lots of animals and there was a big house, where we would stay.At the front of the house there was a sign that said ¨Estancia La catita¨the teachers told us that ¨La catita¨was on ¨La niña¨near ¨9 de Julio¨.The house was nice.It had long tables where we ate every day, there was a chimney, where we later found an owl and there were some chairs all together, where we sat to talk about things we would do or learn. When you turned left you had the rooms. You had to walk along a corridor. Some rooms were on the left side of the corridor and some others were on the right side of the corridor.Rooms weren´t very nice. They had lots of insects,in particular bugs and spiders.Beds were bunk beds, this means there was a bed over another bed.In total in our rooms there were twelve beds, but we only used seven beds. There were two brown cupboards. My roomates were: Valentina,Serena,Florencia,Milena,Emma and Abril Pagniez.
In ¨La catita¨,we did many things. When we arrived,we left our suitcases in the rooms and went to see what were things like outside, but after going we had lunch. We ate pasta. After that,we went to a lake.We all neded to go with boots, because we would walk in the water. We went there by a kind of bus that, instead of seats, had like chairs stuck on the floor and it didn´t have windows. When we got back to the house,we all had some free time. Some kids went to the swings, some others played soccer. We played soccer for a very long time.I payed soccer too.In the match,Serena unfortunatly fell to the grass and broke her arm. Then we had dinner. For dinner we ate meat loaf, and it was delicious! But before having dinner,I forgot to tell that we had a bath. The bathroom had three showers and two toilets. It had five sinks and one big mirror.Later on we put on our coats, jackets and our scarfs and our hats and went too see the sky.On farms, sky can be seen better because there is no city light. We learned about constellations, and saw some planets. We used the telescope on the second night. The next day we did things like going to a school,to a diary baun and learning new things about animals.
Some final comments I want to add are about my best memories. For example, when we played games at night all together or when we played with the sheep on the third day.Something I will never forget,is when we lit the fire at night and shared songs and plays. We laughed very much and we knew things about us that we had never heard of.I hope one day I could go again and enjoy it very much!
